PRC CPD Units: What They Are and How to Earn Units for PRC Renewal

PRC CPD Units :- In the Philippines, most professionals regulated by the Professional Regulation Commission are required to continuously update their skills and knowledge. This is done through the program called Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program.

Every licensed professional, Whether a nurse, engineer, teacher, accountant, or architect needs to earn a certain number of CPD units before they can successfully renew their Professional Identification Card (PIC). For many, CPD units may sound confusing, but once understood, the process becomes manageable.

What Are CPD Units?

CPD Units (Continuing Professional Development Units) are the credit points earned by professionals who participate in learning programs, training, seminars, workshops, online courses, and other skill enhancing activities recognized by PRC.

The goal is to make sure that Filipino professionals remain globally competitive, updated in their field, and ethically responsible.

Each activity you attend like a seminar or training has a specific number of CPD units assigned to it.

For example:

  • A 2 day workshop may give 6 units.
  • A specialized online course may give 15 units.
  • An international conference might give 20+ units.

The total units earned are then recorded under your name and become part of your requirements when you renew your PRC license.

Why Are CPD Units Important?

PRC License Renewal

Without the required CPD units, professionals may face difficulty renewing their license. Since license renewal is mandatory every three years, CPD ensures ongoing professional competence.

Global Standards Compliance

CPD is aligned with international practices. Many countries require CPD from their professionals, and the Philippines follows suit to keep its workforce globally recognized.

Career Advancement

CPD activities enhance expertise, making professionals more competitive for promotions, salary increases, and international job opportunities.

Ethical Responsibility

Professions like medicine, teaching, law, and engineering impact society directly. Staying updated through CPD ensures safety, quality, and integrity.

How Many CPD Units Are Required?

The required number of CPD units depends on your profession.

For example:

Nurses: 15 units
Teachers: 15 units
Engineers: 15 units
Architects: 15 units
Accountants: 120 units
