PRC Board Exam Application for Psychologists and Guidance Counselors: A Complete Guide

The Professional Regulation Commission regulates psychology and guidance counseling in the Philippines, ensuring that only qualified professionals can practice. If you are planning to become a licensed psychologist or guidance counselor, one of the biggest steps is passing the PRC board exam.

Why Take the PRC Board Exam?

Passing the PRC board exam is not only a legal requirement but also a professional milestone. A PRC license proves your competence in your field, enhances your credibility, and opens doors to more opportunities in schools, hospitals, private practice, and government agencies.

Eligibility Requirements

Before applying for the board exam, make sure you meet the academic and documentary requirements.

For Psychologists

  • Masters degree in Psychology from a CHED recognized university

  • At least 200 hours of supervised practicum in various psychology settings

  • Updated curriculum vitae with training and work experience

  • Certificate of good moral character from school, employer, or church leader

For Guidance Counselors

  • Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from a CHED accredited school

  • Completed practicum or internship in counseling with at least 200 hours

  • Certificate of good moral character

  • Endorsement from a supervisor or guidance coordinator

Documents Requirement

When applying for the exam, prepare these documents:

1. NSO/PSA Birth Certificate
2. Transcript of Records (TOR) with scanned picture and remarks “For Board Examination Purposes”
3. Marriage Certificate (if applicable, for married female applicants)
4. 2×2 ID pictures with white background and name tag
5. Community Tax Certificate (cedula)
6. Valid government-issued ID (Passport, Driver’s License, UMID, etc.)
7. Certificates of practicum or internship completion
8. Notarized affidavit of experience (if required by PRC)

Step by Step Guide to PRC Board Exam Application

The process is done online through the PRC Online Portal (LERIS).

Step 1: Create a PRC Online Account

  1. Visit [https://online.prc.gov.ph]

  2. Click Register and fill in your personal details

  3. Upload a recent photo (passport size, plain white background, no eyeglasses, ears visible)

  4. Verify your account via email

Step 2: Log in and Update Profile

Enter your email and password

Update your profile with complete personal, educational, and employment details

Make sure everything matches your documents to avoid rejection

Step 3: Choose Your Transaction

Click TRANSACTION on the dashboard
Select Examination
Choose your profession: Psychologistor Guidance Counselor
Pick your preferred PRC regional office and exam date

Step 4: Schedule an Appointment

The system will generate available dates and times

Choose your most convenient schedule and confirm

Step 5: Pay the Examination Fee

PRC board exam fees vary depending on profession.

Once payment is confirmed, print your payment confirmation slip.

Step 6: Print Your Application Form (AF)

Log back into your PRC account
Download and print your Application Form
Attach your photo and sign it

Step 7: Submit Your Documents

On your scheduled appointment date, bring your:

Printed application form
Required documents (TOR, certificates, IDs, etc.)
Original and photocopies of supporting documents

The PRC officer will check and validate your requirements.

Step 8: Get Your Notice of Admission (NOA)

Once approved, PRC will issue your Notice of Admission. This is your official pass to take the exam, so keep it safe.

Preparing for the Exam

Passing the PRC board exam for psychologists and guidance counselors requires preparation. Here are some tips:

1. Review Core Subjects:- Focus on areas like counseling theories, assessment tools, psychotherapy, ethics, and human development.
2. Practice Past Exams:- Study previous board exam questions to familiarize yourself with the format.

On Exam Day

After the Exam

Results are posted on prc.gov.ph and in major newspapers.

2. Oath Taking Ceremony

Passers are required to attend a mass oath taking ceremony or request a special oath taking.

3. Initial Registration for PRC ID

After oath taking, proceed with the initial registration via the PRC portal.
Pay the registration fee and claim your PRC ID and Certificate of Registration.
